Today we updated our Camfrog (Windows) client with version 5.3.215.  This new version fixes a bug some users were experiencing and adds two new features.  Users can now type longer custom statuses and you can now type @nickname with any Camfrog user name and it will link to their profile.  For example type @frog in an IM and it will link to Frog’s profile on Camfrog.

We have now notified all Camfrog (Windows) users that they should upgrade their client.  If you have any problems please let us know on this Blog, or report logs to our support team.

Today we updated our Camfrog Toolbar for Firefox and Internet Explorer. These new toolbar versions now work properly with the most recent versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Camfrog Toolbar allows you to change your Camfrog status, search the user directory, search the video chat room list, and locate what room users are in even if you don’t have Camfrog Pro.

Today we updated our Camfrog (Windows) client with version 5.3.208.  This new version fixes a bug some users were experiencing while using audio in chat rooms and one-on-one connections.

There has been some confusion about Camfrog remote access and Camfrog client 5.3.  Some users have complained that they can no longer use remote access with the new 5.3 client, but this is not true.

To use remote access as usual go to your Camfrog settings then choose additional, and then choose to always broadcast video in private calls.

To use Camfrog as a remote security webcam go to your general settings then look for “remote access”. Make sure you set a secure password.

So far not a lot of users seem to be having problems with our new Windows Camfrog 5.3 client and our Mac client.  That’s not good enough though. We won’t stop until our software is working perfectly for every Camfrog user on Mac and Windows.

If your Camfrog client for Windows or Mac is having issues it’s easy to report these to our support team.  The sooner you send us your logs the faster we can solve your issue.

If you crash while using the Camfrog Mac client immediately start Camfrog again, then go to the “Camfrog Video Chat” menu and choose “Generate File For Technical Support”.  Please include your email in the report.

For Windows instructions go to our FAQ page and click the link near the top that says “I am still having multimedia problems…” and it has detailed instructions on how to submit crash logs.

If you are having video problems with Camfrog 5.3 for Windows go to your Camfrog settings, then choose video and try switching to the old video rendering system.  We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to submit these logs to our support team.

Camfrog Client 5.3 for Windows is now available for download.  Camfrog 5.3 allows users to buy virtual gifts for rooms.  The top 3 rooms that are currently online with the most gift points appear at the top of the video chat room list.

We now also have new video controls that appear when mousing over your local and remote video window. You can change your video size, change your profile, pause your video, or add text over video by clicking the buttons on your local video window.  In remote video windows you can change the video size, view the users profile, and IM the user easily. Please see the screenshot above to see how it works.

We have also added birthday notifications in the contact list.  You can turn this off by going to the Camfrog settings and choosing “Your profile” if you don’t want anyone to know your birthday.  If someone in a chat room or in your contact list has a birthday today they will have a special birthday icon next to their user icon.

In this new version the Camfrog file transfer system has been improved and we have also reverted to one main “call” button in IM windows.  When you call someone you are automatically placed into audio call mode, then you can press “Play” in your local video window to begin broadcasting video.  IM history is now on by default for all users.

Room Virtual Gifts List

Camfrog Video Chat 5.2 5th Year Anniversary Edition is now available to download.  Please visit our download page to upgrade your client.

Version 5.2 changes include new one-on-one audio and video synchronization.  This means that your audio and video should be in perfect sync when doing a one-on-one video chat.

More Changes and Upgrades:

• - Pause your video in a chat room and you are now broadcasting a frozen video frame instead of just a blank white video window. To test this join a video chat room, then pause your local video window. If the person you are viewing is paused and using this new version then you can see their still frozen video frame too.
• - From your contact list go to the actions/settings menus, then choose “video” to change your default video window sizes to “small” if you prefer. Many users requested that they wanted to be able to choose small sized video windows in rooms as default with the webcam auto-organizer. Now you can do this with the new version. You can also disable the webcam auto-organizer and turn on “Sticky Video Windows” if you prefer the old Camfrog 3.X video window style.
• - Video Chatting one-on-one should now work 100% of the time with the new version. The old client versions could rarely fail in extreme circumstances, but after a lot of hard work we have figured out how to make this version 100% reliable. If you find your private video chat is still failing somehow and both users are using this new beta please let us know so we can investigate.
• - If you are a free user you’ll notice when you join a room your remote video windows are now small even if the room is in “recommended” or “super” mode. Don’t worry, you can still view large video. Mouse over the remote video window and press the enlarge icon to make the remote video window large again. We made this change so users with small screens can choose to see others with small video windows to save screen real estate.
• - Join a video chat room and right click your local video window to “resize all windows” simultaneously.
• - Go to the “view” menu in the chat room window to choose to “highlight friends”. If “highlight friends” is activated and one of your friends from your profile is in a room his or her name will then be highlighted.
• - New language packs have been added: Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional.

Camfrog Mac 1.8 is now available for download.  This new version adds one-on-one video chat compatibility with the most recent Camfrog Windows version, adds more vibrant colors, uses less CPU, and includes some bug fixes and stability enhancements.

If you experience any crashes or major problems with this new client version please go to the “Camfrog Video Chat” menu and choose “Generate file for technical support”.

Join a video chat room and right click your local video window to “resize all windows” simultaneously, you can also go to the “view” menu in the chat room window to choose to “highlight friends”.  If “highlight friends” is activated and one of your friends from your profile is in a room his or her name will then be highlighted.  This new beta version also has a lot of miscellaneous stability and efficiency enhancements.
